How Can Double-Faced Abe Earn the Trust of the International Community?
2014-01-08 22:24

1. I notice that the Pakistani media have recently done lots of reports on the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine. The Chinese Government and people strongly condemned Abe's visit, so did the Asian countries and international community.

2. On December 26, in total disregard of the strong opposition of the Asian people, Abe paid a blatant homage to the Yasukuni Shrine where Class-A war criminals of World War II are honored.

The Yasukuni Shrine was founded to commemorate individuals who had died in service of the Empire of Japan. It currently includes more than 2,460,000 individuals,80% of which died in WWII, including 14 Class A war criminals who committed heinous crimes to the victimized Asian peoples.

Militarist Japan waged the war of aggression against China and the Asian countries, committed the Nanjing Massacre and many other heinous atrocities, and inflicted untold calamities. China suffered as many as 35 million casualties and 600 billion US dollars losses.

In 1946, 14 Class A war criminals, charged with crimes against peace and humanity, were sentenced in Tokyo Trials. But in 1978, these criminals was enshrined into the Yasukuni Shrine secretly.

The shrine is a spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism. The Chinese Government and the Asian people have, from the very beginning, firmly opposed Japanese leaders' visit to the Shrine and its right-wing policy.

3. Japan is China's neighbor. We are willing to develop normal ties of good-neighborliness with the Japanese people.

When China and Japan normalized their diplomatic ties in 1972, the Chinese leadership made the important decision not to seek war reparations from Japan. This is because that the crimes and responsibilities of the war of aggression against China should be borne by the small number of militarists. The Japanese people are also victims of the war.

However, Abe has refused to assume historical responsibilities or own up to Japan's past crime. Instead, he has gone so far to worship Class-A war criminals. Abe's visit is, in nature, an attempt to whitewash the history of aggression and colonialism by militarist Japan, overturn the just trial of Japanese militarism by the international community and challenge the outcome of WWII and the post-war international order.

Abe's visit has severely damaged and overturned the political foundation of China-Japan relations. That's why the Japanese side was not able to build up mutual trust with China and other Asian countries.

4. We can find what Abe has done and said are hypocrisy, arrogance and self-contradiction, which undoubtedly demonstrates that he is a practiced double dealer.

Firstly, the Japanese side said that Abe paid homage to the Yasukuni Shrine in a private capacity and the government had never got involved. However, it is reported that the signature left by Abe in the guest book was "Prime Minister Shinzo Abe".

If "Prime Minister Shinzo Abe" can not be regarded as Japanese government representative, who else can? If Abe's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine can not be regarded as Japanese government's involvement, what else can be?

Secondly, the Japanese side always emphasize that Abe's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine is Japan's internal affairs. We can't help asking him whether militarist Japan's aggression war is Japan's internal affairs? Whether the practice of damaging to the regional and global peace and stability is also Japan's internal affairs?

If so, why do so many countries around the world condemn it? In fact, it is a flagrant provocation to the peace-loving people of the entire world, a gross trampling upon historical justice and human conscience.

Thirdly, Abe is always showing his so-called "friendly goodwill" before the Asian people and international world. Ironically, after his visit to the shrine, Abe insisted that he had no intention of neglecting the feelings of the people of China and South Korea and added that he wanted an opportunity to explain his position to China and Korea.

If so, why Abe does not repent openly to the people of China and South Korea? We can see as early as 1970, the Chancellor of Federal Republic of Germany Willy Brandt knelt down at the monument to victims of German aggression in Warsaw. Compare to him, is there a tiny bit of sincerity we can find from Abe's deeds and remarks? Definitely not.

Therefore, from Abe we can see a politician with no credit. It is the Japanese side who is creating a new, major political barrier to improve relations with the Asian countries and international community. It is Abe himself who shut down the door to dialogue with the related Asian countries.

5. Abe is pushing Japan toward a dangerous road that undermines the fundamental trust and interests of people of all countries and of Japan. It has already given rise to high vigilance of the international community and of people. It will be proved that Abe lift the rock of the Yasukuni Shrine, only to drop it on his own toes.
