On September 2, 2015, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan Zhao Lijian paid tribute to Gilgit Cemetry of Chinese Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the construction of the Karakorum Highway During the ceremony, Zhao laid a wreath in front of the commemoration monument and extended his gratitude and regards to the Pakistani cemetery keepers.
