Breaking-Ground Ceremony for Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Held

        April 8, the ground-breaking ceremony of 325 MW Chashma Nuclear Power Plant (CHASHNUPP) Unit-2 (C-2) was held at the construction site. Dr. Parvez Butt, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, hosted the ceremony and made the welcome remarks. Mr. Zhang Chunxiang, China's Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Wang Shoujun, Vice President of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Riaz Mohammad Khan, Foreign Secretary, Mr. Jamshed A Hashmi, Chairman Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Mr. Javed Iqleem, Member Power PAEC, and Mr. Salman Bashir, Pakistan's Ambassador to China, were also present and delivered speeches. The Pakistani officials praised all-weather traditional friendship and all-dimensional cooperative partnership between China and Pakistan, and thanked the Chinese Government and Chinese engineers and technicians for their energetically support to Pakistan's policy of adjusting energy structure and developing nuclear power, hoping that through common efforts from both sides, C-2 can be constructed as one of the first-class nuclear power plants in the world. They fully believed that C-2 will play an important role in Pakistan's social and economic development and the future of Sino-Pak cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy will be broad and far-extending.

 

        Ambassador Zhang Chunxiang said, Chashma Nuclear Power Plant is not only the symbol of Sino-Pak cooperation in high-tech field but also a model of international cooperation of peaceful using nuclear energy. He believed that successful cooperation in this field will definitely make a contribution to the all-dimensional cooperative partnership between the two countries.
