The Nation, Islamabad-Dr. Jiang Yili, the wife of Chinese Ambassador, hosted a luncheon and a colourful cultural programme to mark the International Women Day here at Chinese Embassy.

Mrs. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the wife of Chief of Army Staff, and Mrs. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the wife of Federal Foreign Minister, were the chief guests on the occasion, while Mrs. General Ehsan ul Haq, Mrs. General Khalid Kidwai, Mrs. Niaz Khan Khattak, the wife of DDG ISI, Mrs. Suleman Farooqi, the wife of Secretary General President’s Office, Mrs. Akram Zaki, Mrs. Riaz Khokhar & Mrs. Khalid Mehmood were also present.

The Chinese are known for their diversity in various cultural aspects such as live performing arts. The way the Chinese embassy celebrated the Women Day reflects the fact that the Chinese community has complete grip not only on their traditional culture and dances but also on the modern ones. All the Chinese female staff including the wife of the Chinese Ambassador participated in various dances.

Chinese culture and civilization have a very special attachment to spring and Chinese are famous for the spring dances. The function started with the spring dances, which were appreciated by the participants. Different dances named “The Spring Dance”, “Love Never Ends”, “Rabbit Dance”, “Heavenly Road”, “Married Daughter Return Home” and “Beautiful Bride” were liked by everybody and which was the reflection of the good skill of dances even in the non-profession & Diplomatic families.

It was exciting to hear the Pakistani song “Jeewe Jeewe Pakistan” by the Chinese girls. Chinese are known for their different habits and among them the most prominent is the drinking of tea. Chinese believe that the hot green tea is good for digestive system. During the function one Chinese lady was making green tea on the stage and was talking about the different types of tea in China and their positive effects on the human health.

Mrs. Kayani was actively meeting with different women as she was known to many participants, as she is also heading the Army Ladies Club which is involved in various welfare projects of the army persons. She was given proper protocol, which is the reflection of the high respect by the Chinese for Gen. Ashfaq Kayani.
