Chinese visit to further promote bilateral relations and trade activities: PM Shaukat Aziz

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Sunday said his five- day visit to China has opened new avenues of cooperation between the two countries in different fields. Addressing a press conference here at Prime Minister House, he said, China and Pakistan are strategic partners have been cooperating in the fields of economy, trade, energy, defence, investment, people-to-people contacts, culture, education and other areas.

The Prime Minister said he exchanged views with Chinese leadership to further promote political, economic and diplomatic relations.

He said he has the honour to address the Communist Party School. He said he also visited Chengdu, where he inaugurated new Consulate General of Pakistan, which is the third consulate.

The Prime Minister said he also visited Chines Air Design Complex where Pakistan and China have been cooperating for manufacturing of state of the art JF-17 aircraft.

He said he also addressed students at Sichuan University.

Referring to his engagements in Boao, the Prime Minister besides a key note speaker, there was a special session on Pakistan in this important conference.

The Prime Minister said the visit would also follow up to Five Year Development Programme on Trade and Economic Cooperation and Free Trade Agreement signed on the occasion of President Hu Jintao's visit to Pakistan in November last. He said under FTA, the volume of trade would be increased to dollars 15 billion in next five years and service sector has also been included in the FTA.

Shaukat Aziz said Pakistan takes great pride in its unique, historic and multifaceted relationship with China which has emerged as a global power on the international scene.

The Prime Minister said the relationship with China which covers diplomatic, political, economic, defence, security, energy, trade, investment, science and technology, education, cultural fields and people-to-people contacts, is marked by full mutual trust and all-round bilateral cooperation.

He said a high level delegation from China will visit Pakistan to select and identify the products being imported from Pakistan to China.

He said there will be quarterly meeting of various departments and ministries to review the targets given to them for the promotion of trade and economic activities between the two countries.

The Prime Minister for the first time Joint Investment Company has been formed between Pakistan and China to promote trade and investment. Chinese Development Bank will be partner in this investment company, he said.

He said agreement has also signed with the same Chinese company which constructed Gwadar Port for the construction of airport at Gwadar.

The Prime Minister said China and Pakistan have unanimity of views on all regional and international issues and he also discussed Iran's nuclear issue during his talks with Chinese leadership.

He said use of force against Iran on this issue could be counter productive, therefore, there is need to resolve the issue through peaceful means and all the countries including China have the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purpose.

The Prime Minister said it is Pakistan's view that China is becoming a global power due to its role in the progress and prosperity of the region and the world at large.

He said the cooperation between Pakistan and China for the electricity generation through nuclear is going on and expressed the hope that it will be increased in future. He referred to the Chashma II being set up with Chinese cooperation for the production of 320 MW electricity, which will be completed ahead of schedule.

The Prime Minister said China will also cooperate with Pakistan to improve KKH, the silk route to make it all-weather route.

He said Pakistan is working for energy, trade and transport corridor and China will extend full help in this regard.
