| Link with Chinese varsities stressed |

ISLAMABAD, May 29(Dawn): Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui visited the International Islamic University (IIU) here on Tuesday. IIU President Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui briefed the visiting envoy on the history, philosophy and development of the university and said that not only Islamic disciplines like Arabic and Islamic studies but telecommunication, computer, applied and social sciences faculties of the university have also attracted a large number of students from across the world. Dr Siddiqui hoped that the envoy's stay in Pakistan will boost the cordial and friendly relations between the two countries. He expressed his desire for improved linkage with Chinese universities and said that establishment of Chinese language department at the IIU was under consideration. The IIU president informed the visiting envoy about the large number of Chinese students at the university and termed them one of the most hardworking and brilliant students. Mr. Luo, on this occasion, expressed his delight on the developing linkage of the IIU with Chinese universities and said that China and Pakistan have many things to share with each other. He urged students, researchers and scholars of both countries to explore the venues of mutual interest laying in the arenas of sciences, technology, economy, culture and civilization. Ambassador Luo appreciated the idea of the establishment of Chinese language department at the IIU and said that the language barriers should be removed between the two countries. "We should accelerate our efforts for providing maximum opportunities of learning Chinese by Pakistanis and Urdu by Chinese," he said. |
