PAKISTAN AND CHINA AGREE TO ENHANCE COLLABORATION IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE

(ISLAMABAD PID)Pakistan and China agreed to enhance collaboration in field of traditional medicine and benefit from each other's expertise and experience in the area. The agreement was reached at a meeting held here today between the Vice Health Minister of China, Mr. Wang Guoqiang and Federal Health Minister Mohammed Nasir Khan.

Establishment of a University of Traditional Medicine in Pakistan with Chinese support was also discussed. The two sides agreed to designate focal points in the health ministries of both the countries to augment co­operation in the health sector.

The Chinese delegation expressed interest in investing in the pharmaceutical sector in Pakistan and also collaborating in production of vaccines for prevention of deadly diseases of children.

Later, addressing a joint press conference with the Chinese Vice Health Minister, the Federal Health Minister said Pakistan and China share time­tested friendship and there is a need to translate the excellent collaboration into concrete programmes for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries. The Health Minister expressed profound gratitude to the Chinese Government for providing anti-malaria drugs for the flood affectees. He said the meeting between the two ministers was a follow-up to the visit of the President General Pervez Musharraf to China last year when an MOU on Health Co-operation between the two countries was signed.

The Chinese Vice Health Minister, Wang Guoqiang expressed sympathy for those affected by the massive floods in parts of Pakistan and pledged all out support on behalf of his Government.
