Pakistan, China to further strengthen defence ties

RAWALPINDI, Dec 14 (APP): Pakistan and China have underscored the need for enhanced cooperation in various fields particularly in the area of defence. This was discussed at a meeting between Minister for Defence and Defence Production Syed Salim Abbas Jilani and Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Luo Zhao Hui, who called on the Minister here Friday. Both sides reviewed various aspects of defence cooperation and stressed the need for further consolidating and expanding defence relations between the two countries.

The Minister informed the envoy that Pakistan was highly appreciative of the Chinese assistance in establishing the defence industry of Pakistan.

He especially highlighted the Chinese contribution in the establishment of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra, Heavy Industries Texila and development and production of JF-17 Thunder Aircraft and Frigates for Pakistan Navy.

The envoy conveyed to the Minister that the Chinese leadership wanted to see Pakistan a stronger and prosperous country and would continue to support Pakistan in the area of trade, economy and defence.

Luo Zhao Hui said that it was essential to promote and encourage people-to-people contacts, especially among the younger generations, which would help in further strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.

The Minister proposed that the exchange of visits by the students of the two countries would also contribute towards the consolidation of growing ties between the two sides.

Salim Abbas Jilani briefed the Chinese envoy about the counter-terrorism measures taken by Pakistan. He reiterated the government's resolve to combat and eliminate terrorism.

He said the wave of terrorism would soon be overcome. He reassured the Chinese ambassador that Pakistan would take all protective measures to ensure the security of Chinese working in Pakistan in different projects.
