Visitors Call Event a Treat for Eyes-Islamic World Exhibition Begins at IIU

ISLAMABAD (APP)-International Islamic University (IIU) here Tuesday displayed "Islamic World Exhibition" to capture the culture of various Muslim countries as part of 20th annual cultural week celebrations of the university.

The Ambassador of People's Republic of China to Pakistan, Luo Zhaohui was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the event.

Ambassadors and envoys of other countries were also present on the occasion, says a statement issued here today.

The exhibition depicted the culture and ethnic traditions of various countries such as Iran, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, China, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Turkey, Yemen, Bosnia and others.

The students in their stalls focused on traditional interior decors, special food items of their respective countries and dresses to depict the way of living.

The Pakistani culture was also exhibited representing Gwadar, Siraiki, Kashmiri, Pakhtoon, Balochi, Punjabi and Sindhi styles.

The visitors termed the event as a treat for the eyes for as long as one stayed in the decorated rooms representing the respective country, it seemed as if you have traveled to that country side.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chinese Ambassador said that Pakistan and China are example of sincere friendship for other nations of the world.

He said that Pakistan and China friendship is time tested and deep rooted and will further strengthen in the days to come.

He also offered students to participate in Beijing Olympic Games in August and its torch burning rally in Islamabad in April 2008.

President, IIU, Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui on the occasion highlighted the salient features of the cultural festivities for the character building and self-grooming of the students.

He also appreciated the spirit of students for conducting the exhibition and showing keen interest.

The three-day cultural festivities include debates, Qirat and Naat competitions, multilingual quiz programmes, literary festivals, cultural nights while the concluding ceremony of the activities would be held on March 20th.
