BEIJING, Sept 15 (APP)- Pakistan has wrapped up its campaign in the Beijing 2008 Paralympics Games here with taking part in their last event in which athlete Haider Ali got 4th position in the Discuss Throw here on Sunday. Haider took part in F-38 event, he was near to get gold, but due to amalgamation of F-36 and F-37 competitions he could not get due points for the first position, the Chef De Mission of Pakistani squad Imran Jamil Shami told APP here on Monday. “Two athletes namely Haider Ali and Nadia Hafeez were part of Pakistani contingent and one of them Haider took Silver medical”, so by no means it was a bad performance, he noted. Haider Ali has created history in the country’s Paralympics Games when he won silver medal in the Long Jump competition on Sept 9. He took part in T-38 category and covered the distance of 6.44 meter, equal to Tunisian competitor who also jumped the same distance but won the Gold Medal. Haider could not win the Gold, because in the preliminary rounds of five jumps, he defaulted one. Earlier, Pakistan’s powerlifter Naveed Ahmed Butt failed a doping test at the Beijing Paralympics Games, according to International Paralympics Committee (IPC). It is the first doping offense at the Sept 6-17 Paralympics. Butt, 37, tested positive for methandienone metabolites, a steroid, and received a two-year ban, the IPC said in a statement. |
