PM Arrives in China to Attend SCO Summit

BEIJING, Oct 12 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani arrived here Monday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) summit of heads of governments and hold bilateral talks with the Chinese leadership. The Prime Minister and his delegation was received byPakistan’s ambassador to China Masood Khan, his Chinese counterpart Luo Zhaohui and senior officials at the Beijing International Airport. He was presented a guard of honour.

Gilani, who is undertaking the visit to East Asian state on the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, will participate in the SCO summit representing Pakistan, which has an observer status at the forum.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold meetings with President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese leaders.

He will also meet leaders of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and others attending the summit.

During his four-day visit, Gilani is due to meet heads of corporate organizations including Chinese defence sector companies, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, China Exim Bank, China Development Bank and Agricultural Development Bank of China.

He will attend the round-table moot on Pak-China Trade Investment Corporation and hold a meeting with China International Water and Electric Corporation on hydro power projects. Thar Coal project will also be discussed on priority.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to have an interaction with Chinese print and electronic media.

This is Prime Minister Gilani’s first bilateral visit to China. In August last year, he paid a goodwill visit to represent Pakistan at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, while in October last, he attended the 7th Asia Europe Summit (ASEM) in Beijing.
