Gilani Thanks China for Military, Diplomatic Support to Fight Terrorism

BEIJING, Oct 14 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said Pakistan’s military and people remained committed to fighting terrorism and acknowledged China’s military and diplomatic support to counter this menace.In his meeting with Jia Qinglin, Chairman China’s Peoples Political Consultative Conference, the Prime Minister said Pakistan was engaged in tough struggle against terrorism and extremism for ensuring regional peace.Gilani said Pakistan also supported ‘One China’ policy and condemned the recent incidents of violence in Xinjiang that aimed at disturbing peaceful China.

“We fully support China’s steps to restore law and order and believe that the three evil forces of terrorism, extremism and separatism must be defeated,” he said.

The Prime Minister congratulated Jia Qinglin on the 60th anniversary of founding of China and said Pakistan also celebrated the occasion by holding a series of events.

He said the current year witnessed promotion of Pak-China ties, that are based on friendship and trust.

Gilani urged China to assist Pakistan in carrying out projects in energy sector, particularly thermal, hydro power and nuclear energy.

He stressed the need for increasing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and said it should be brought down to the committee-level.

Jia Qinglin appreciated Gilani for being long engaged in strengthening friendship between Pakistan and China since he was Speaker National Assembly.

He said China would support all means of enhancing bilateral relations with Pakistan that also enjoyed greater people-to-people contacts.
