(The NEWS, Rawalpindi) The Chinese government truly acknowledges the art of cartooning and animation not only as a powerful medium of communication but also as a revenue-generating industry, connecting the country with the rest of the world.

This was shared by Nigar Nazar, the first female cartoonist ofPakistan and CEO Gogistudios, while talking to “The News” here Thursday after attending a six-day cartoon convention held in China recently.

The cartoonist said that the Asian Youth Animation & Comic Contest (AYACC) was an eye opener, as it educated the participants about the many uses of cartooning and animation, such as its use in scientific education vis-a-vis understanding research, discoveries and new information in medical science, as well as its use in teaching the so called “boring” subjects, such as history, in schools. With the use of this technique, students with a low attention span now read their course books with as much interest as they show in reading any comic book or a graphic novel.

The art of cartooning and animation was also used as a training tool at the Beijing Olympics last year for precise calculated movements, needed to be shown to a mass of people specially while training the performers.

The cartoon convention had in attendance experts and professionals from the US, France, Denmark, UK, Sweden, Belgium, besides the Asians and Pan Pacific represented by Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Iran, India, Singapore, Russia, New Zealand and Australia.

Nigar said she felt proud as a Pakistani as she spoke as the first foreign speaker on “Cartooning as a Means to Activism & Social Change”. A documentary was also shown on the occasion to support the subject. Numair Abbas, Director Gogimation ofPakistan, was also invited to participate in the event.
